Buffalo Nickel

The Buffalo Nickel is one of the most easily recognizable coins in American numismatics. Beginning its 25 year run in 1913, the Buffalo Nickel still holds a particular allure to coin collectors just starting out in the hobby. Designed by James Earl Fraser and using three Native Americans for his models, the Buffalo Nickel, both obverse and reverse, carries a distinct commemoration to the original inhabitants of the prairie lands of America.

On the reverse mof the Buffalo Nickel is a profile portrait of a buffalo in all its majesty. Some say the buffalo on the reverse of the Buffalo Nickel was designed after the famous “Black Diamond” buffalo that walked the grounds of the New York Zoo at the time, but there is no definitive record of this being the case. Regardless, in the Buffalo Nickel series, Fraser was able to capture the power and beauty of America’s most dominant land animal in a such a way that coin enthusiasts for ages will be able to appreciate. Due to it’s overproduction and well used status in the coins of circulation at the time, the Buffalo Nickel has few key dates and carries a little premium on the open market. Most often than not, the Buffalo Nickel has lost its date on the obverse due to wear and date placement on the coin.

When this is the case, consider the Buffalo Nickel to still just be a spendable nickel. Some coin collectors in the past have used an acid to attempt to “raise” the date in hopes to revive the numbers and potentially find an earlier example of the Buffalo Nickel. Unfortunately, it was quickly discovered that this process only serves to damage the Buffalo Nickel even further, thereby destroying any numismatic value the coin may possess.

Coins of the Buffalo Nickel series with “raised dates” can be considered spendable as well as they have practically lost any extra numismatic appeal. Brilliant uncirculated specimens of the Buffalo Nickel series can command a premium and, in conditions close to this state, could have significant value if the are of a particular variation of the early years of the Buffal Nickel series. A.J. and Robert are so friendly and make it so you have the best deal with the items you bring them. They have so much knowledge about all the items they have in their shop and they like to teach others about what they know…

Really cool cats over at Nevada Coin and Jewelry. You would’ve thought that I was “Madonna” the way those guys treated me. I was so mesmerized by all of the antiques, they have in there, I believe I was there for two hours, just looking, unbelieveable! When I went in I was so hot, they offered me a cold bottle of water, how cool is that? It felt like home to me. I wanted to get a price for some old jewelry that was passed down by grandma, I was well satisfied. When I left the shop, I was singing “Money, Money, Money.

I am a brazilian and had the chance to deal with Nevada Coin. I was there to sell some gold coins and they paid me the best price I could fetch in Las Vegas. They are professional, courteous and trustworthy. Before visiting their premises I got a tentative appraisal by phone which I found reasonable. In the shop the attendant offered to approach the manager to get me a (gasp) BETTER price. Do yourself a favor and don’t bother talking to their rude and unprofessional competitors. They will treat you like a moron and quote prices accordingly. For Nevada Coin, five Stars all the way.

Nevada Coin and Jewelry – has excellent customer service – providing las Vegas with top notch service and expertise – this is my primary coin dealers — others just can’t keep up – they are helpful and friendly – in my opinion they are the best in the south west area — so that’s my review a++++ rating – because I am a good customer – this is the best place to buy and sell gold and silver bullion.

They took the time to help me sell my item and find an item. The staff does not rush you or pressure you into buying something. They take you on a little adventure by telling you about the items you are selling and looking at…

Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive. Building had great security to helped me feel safe in handling my items.

While vacationing in Las Vegas I did what a lot of people do I’m sure or at least that’s what I’m telling my wife ..I blew through the money I brought a little quicker than expected and I ended up having to shop my Rolex around to several dealers to save the trip. So I looked online for places, most offers over the phone were low and that’s if they would even quote me in the first place. I spoke to a guy at Nevada Coin and Jewelry who gave me a fair ball park price and a reasonable explanation as to why his number couldn’t be solid. Went down expecting to get the lower number and in fact Robert their Rolex expert said my Rolex was a better model then I had described. He paid me a higher number than he quoted. Thanks for saving my vacation guys.

The staff are quick at work but not too quick to make you feel pressured into buying items or selling your items. They teach you about the items and tell you if they have use for your items or not. If they don’t have use for your items they call other places to see if they have a use for the items. Great staff!

Been living in Vegas for many years and never had to sell or hock any of my items unfortunately as luck would have it that day did eventually find me and let me tell you is it a tough racket to find a decent place out here to do business with. Pawn shops are a joke and could care less about their customers and treated me like another number. Tried and tried and place after place the numbers where all over the place. Finally decided to go to these guys and I’m glad I did. They tested each piece of my jewelry right in from of me with some kind of xray machine. They explained how they calculated the price and paid me cash on the spot. Avery was very helpful and didn’t mind answering my questions and explaining what they do. I left feeling I got the best price for my items. I would recommend them to anyone looking to sell their jewelry.
